Who we are

How Marillas started

Marillas is run by me, Marilla, and opened its doors at 1 The Crescent in August 2026.

I’m a local mum of four and, after previously working as a dietitian, I’ve recently taken the exciting step of turning a long-held dream into reality by opening my own café.

I’ve always had a passion for baking and, for as long as I can remember, I’ve dreamed of having a café of my own. Living locally, I often felt that something was missing — a lovely, welcoming place where people could meet for a coffee, enjoy freshly prepared food and treat themselves to something homemade.

So, when the opportunity to open a café came along, I jumped at the chance. It was a big decision, especially alongside raising four children, but it was an opportunity I didn’t want to let pass me by.

It’s been wonderful to bring that dream to life and welcome people through our doors. Seeing customers enjoying what we’ve created makes all the hard work worthwhile.

At Marillas, most of our bakes are made in-house, and we offer a selection of sandwiches and other freshly prepared food each day. My aim is to create somewhere that feels warm, welcoming and at the heart of the local community — a place to enjoy good coffee, fresh food, homemade treats and a little time out of the day.

I look forward to welcoming you to Marillas!

The room

Neon, oak and olive trees

The Marillas sign glows on a cream wall above oak tables and bentwood chairs. A long teal velvet banquette runs down one side, rattan lamps hang over the tables, and olive trees stand by the sideboard.

Take the window seat and you can watch The Crescent go by.

On the counter

Bakes by the window, lunch to follow

Cinnamon buns under pistachio icing, brownies, cookies and custard tarts line up along the counter. At lunchtime there are baguettes, paninis and focaccia, and the overnight oats go out in pots with our name on the lid. Coffee is poured at the same counter.
